How to create a standard user account in windows 8

If you forget it, there's nothing you can do other than deleting it using an administrator account. For those who don't know, CMD or Command Prompt is a command-line interpreter that's used by tons of coders and other advanced users to perform crucial tasks on their PCs. Using CMD is arguably the fastest way to make a new local user account since all you need to do here is enter a proper line of code. You don't have to fill out too much information.

Let's get started:. If you get a response that "The command completed successfully," it means that the account has been created. You can log out and switch to this new account right away. Since you're not prompted to retype the password for verification, you need to be extra careful not to make any typos. By default, these accounts that you create will be a standard user in Windows no matter what method you use.

Therefore, if you want them to have administrator privileges, you'll need to go through a couple more steps to change the account type. This can be done via the Settings app. You're all set now. You don't have to do this if you're going to share your PC with someone else since administrator permissions will give them full access to your computer.

Now that all the possible methods have been covered, it's time to figure out which one you like to use. Each of these methods has its positives and negatives. For example, the Settings and Netplwiz methods require you to go through multiple on-screen instructions but give you a way to recover your account if you forget the password. The other faster options fail in that department. The next time you install or reinstall Windows 10 on your PC, make sure you are not connected to the internet so that you can create an offline account directly without bothering with Microsoft's prompts.

Forgetting your password is scary, but you still have options to get back in. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. I want to leave them to install any app they like without me to be behind them and enter my password. Trying to set up a windows 8 tablet with an account that should have practically no privileges.

I knew windows 8 sucked but can't believe how badly it sucked. I have two accounts on my Windows 8 machine, one admin with password and one standard user with no password. I recently noticed that while logged in only on the standard user I could download the install file for firefox, nothing wrong with that. However I could also start it and install the application.

I did this by starting the install app, a dialogue popped up asking me for admin password however this dialogue had a regular windows frame with an "X" to close it in top right. By simply closing the dialogue the install file would run and install firefox, no password required. This seems very odd to me and also circumvents the main reason why I made a standard user account, to have control of what is installed. I tried to do the same thing with a more "obscure" program and found that this time instead of the old windows framed dialogue I was now presented with a windows 8 looking blue strip across the screen again asking me to enter admin info but with no "X" button.

So perhaps because firefox was recognized as "safe" by windows I got a different dialogue, still seems odd though. The user can do this themselves, by logging on to the PC and opening the Control Panel. Select User Accounts and then choose Create a password for your account. Enter the password and then type it a second time to confirm it. You can also add a password hint if required. Then press Create Password. If the PC is on a domain, the password can only be created by the administrator.

Select the account you want to create a password for and press Create a password. Type in the password, confirm it and then press Create password. See also: How to run Windows 7 and Windows 8 at the same time.
