Based on the collectible card game, Dragon Ball Z allows players to use a ladder fighting system to defeat opponents and, finally, conquer Cell, the major baddie. Players unlock new characters as they strategize and harness their power to save the universe from complete and utter destruction.

These eventually translate into additional combat abilities, allowing Goku to harness a handful of melee and Ki powers, in addition to enabling him to move faster. When in battle, Goku is able to punch the enemy or unleash one of three different Ki attacks, the more powerful of which, in true RPG fashion, are only earned deep into the quest.
Ki Blast, Solar Flare, and the powerful Kamehameha! Dragonball GT: Transformation. In this game the battles are bigger and the enemies are more dangerous. Can you take your game to the Next Level? No card spinning, no little Goku sprite popping up and slashing his sword, nothing.
However, it's a card game. The visuals aren't as involving as in the Pokemon TCG. There are only a couple of battle themes in the game, and most of the battle music is the same as the menu music. The sounds consists of punches when damage occurs, and a guy screaming when the anger level increases.
Oddly enough, the same screaming sound was used for the ''AAH! Real Monsters'' Nickelodeon cartoon. Don't ask me how I know that. You'll spend most of your time doing this: -Attacking -If your opponent has a defense card, your entire attack is cancelled. This is basically how the game is. So you better hope you have an Attack Card and a Defense Card in your hand.
Because it's simple. The recent Yu-Gi-Oh game was too complicated for its own good. It's pure, clean fun. Monotonous, not really, unless you consider the process itself repetitive. There is everything but few ways to play this game, to use certain character, against certain character, etc.. The good news are that this game does not need to be original to rock, since the real CCG is a blast. I don't want to be limited to a card deck or a set of opponents, I want to kick some a..
The essence of DGZ is all about being the best, the strongest, the king of the hill. But this game completely ignores the most important and stimulating element of DBZ. For that, I give it 5 out of Less original that DBZ itself. GBA developers and producers remember one things: we want games that play at our own pace without having to press the A button 10 times per second!!! The greatest flaw of this game is its speed, it is not slow as FFT slow, its slow as grandma on her wheel chair in the highway slow.
Everything else is nicely done. I wish they had developed shortcuts for certain things such as reading a card or activating a non-combat card, etc.
Let me put it this way, if your opponent played a card that you don't know exactly what it does, you need to get out of your hand view, go to the table, find his card, select it and find the view command, wait for 3 second for a little flip animation, and then read the card when it could have been easier just to be able to zoom at the card when it was used, eliminate the annoying flip animation and read what it does to determine the best course of action.
They spend valuable bytes recreating the cards to perfection in the GBA, but they never considered the fact that it is not only how it looks, but how it works all together what makes or kills the game. Beyond this, there is nothing special that we haven't seen in another GBA title. The game is slow but it makes up for it with the depth and complexity of every battle. Strategy fans will enjoy it, if you are looking for action look no more here, you will not find such a thing.
